Okay Here's the deal:
You're deserted on Joni Island and you can have only one Joni Album/CD to listen to
(no greatest hits!?)...
What Album/CD would it be & why?
heh, heh since i asked the asked the question, i'll reserve the right to answer it after a couple posts (really i'm torn between a couple and need to think a bit ) Ha.

Re: Joni Island
Sat, September 23, 2006 - 9:30 AMEven though it's not my favorite, I would pick Travelogue, because it spans her whole career, recorded in her crone years, and it's sung almost 3rd person to me, wistful..is that the right word? That way of looking at things would be appropriate on a deserted island. Actually, in 6 months I'm leaving for Kauai, Hawaii for a longterm camping trip alone, and I've already planned it. I'm only taking Travelogue. Hey, my backpack is small. -

Re: Joni Island
Tue, October 10, 2006 - 1:38 PMOh and the riff on that one. She always finds the one to match the subject, like The Wolf That Lives in Lindsay, at the end, it sounds like the wolves gait/gallop. But Black Crow has that up, down, around quality of the crow. Somewhere I read Hejira is her favorite.

Re: : Joni Island
Tue, October 3, 2006 - 7:03 AMif i was stuck on an island...i think i would want song to a seagull. this was the second album i owned of hers and it turned me into a full blown joni fan. she is so young on this album...i was the same age when i bought it. -
-
Re: : Joni Island
Tue, October 3, 2006 - 9:53 AMSong to A Seagull is lovely, it has little in common musically with anything after that. She was a late starter compared to many though, she was 25 when that first album was released. -

Re: : Joni Island
Tue, October 3, 2006 - 10:24 AMoh wow...i thought she was even younger...for some reason i thought she was nineteen when that came out. -

Re: : Joni Island
Thu, October 5, 2006 - 2:58 PMokay i've rolled it around a lil'

Re: : Joni Island
Fri, October 6, 2006 - 12:29 PMthat's so funny...ladies of the canyon was my first joni album too. i laughed when i heard the circle game cause some old hippie taught me that song when i was at a camp called nature's classroom in new hampshire. i was in fifth grade and i thought, " what a great song this guy is really talented!" duh! i guess i've always been a sucka for dem long hair types!

Mon, November 20, 2006 - 11:21 AMBlue is my favorite, though a tough choice, this album speaks to me...joni is just so amazing, a true painter of bittersweet melodies and gorgeous imagery from her beautiful, unconventional, faerie-like voice.

Sun, October 8, 2006 - 9:26 PMI'd pick the hissing of summer lawns because it reminds me of college as I'd listen to it when I wrote papers. -

Re: Joni Island
Tue, October 10, 2006 - 10:32 AMClouds cuz if I actaully die on that island I want to hear the mystical tones of " I think I understand" as I float out of my body...

Re: Joni Island
Sat, November 18, 2006 - 8:08 AMThat's such a tough question, but I'd have to choose "For the Roses" because it underscored a turning point in my life as I was growing up. I think I must have listened to the album every day for three years when I was in college! I love how the album moves from stark pieces like "Banquet" and "Cold Blue Steel" to the more textured finale, "Judgment of the Moon and Stars"--a masterpiece --but nearly every Joni album is! The album also includes two of her very best compositions, "You Turn Me On I'm a Radio" and "Lesson In Survival" . .just exquisite!!! -

Fri, December 1, 2006 - 11:35 AMyou know...i was just listening to for the roses the other day...what a great album! anyhow...i have it on vinyl...and i was look'n at the album cover and if you look inside it looks like joni is on her own island skinny dipp'n...what a cute butt she has! hee hee! she is sooo great! -
-
Re: Joni Island
Fri, December 1, 2006 - 9:26 PMI read a funny story about that picture. She told David Geffen, her manager at the time, that she wanted that to be the picture on the cover of the album, and he said "What? And have a 6.99 dollar sign stickered on your ass!". That was from an interview with her. I thought that was hysterical.

night ride home
Mon, November 20, 2006 - 8:05 PM(i'm new here; this is my first post. i am crazy about joni. i spent a couple years listening to NOTHING else.) if i were deserted with one joni album, i would pick night ride home. it was the first joni album i heard (this seems to be a theme), and it is entirely soothing and satisfying to me. (and it happens to be my daughter's favorite bedtime music.)
