I was gleefully perusing a recent biography and was fLoORd by something I read about the song "Man from MArs" (from Taming the Tiger)
Now, just so you know, I've found that song to be obliteratingly heart-breaking :-0 (I cry fairly easily, but this is ridiculous) ..anyway, what a gorgeous and sad song about a lost love... "I can't get through the day without at least one big boo-hoo", she sings.
-It turns out the song was written ABOUT HER CAT!! The darned animal ran off and disappeard one day!
DOn't get me wrong - I love cats too! It just put a different sorta spin on the song.
Joni Mitchell is a goddess in every sense. :-)

I do agree, as to the spin, tho.

Sun, January 1, 2006 - 4:24 PMCheck out the original recording of "Man From Mars" on the soundtrack of a movie called "Grace of My Heart". I like it better than the original. The initial run of the soundtrack contained Joni's version. Subsequent pressings have the cover by whoever sang it in the movie. The original has heavier synthesizers, rather than that treated guitar she used throughout "Taming the Tiger". -

Fri, April 27, 2007 - 10:53 PMI'm listening again to it lately. Really hearing the arrangement... the gorgeous orchestration. And the poor li'l cat "swallowed by the dark".. how rich. As a child I had a couple of favourite cats disappear...swallowed by the dark (we lived in the woods).
